Ron Lloyd, RA, NCARB
President and Founder

In addition to being founder and president of RDL Architects, Inc., Ron is a master planner and architect. He established RDL Architects in 1994 after a successful career managing the design studios of nationally recognized architecture firms in Cleveland, Ohio.  RDL Architects grew out of Ron’s desire for freedom of expression and commitment to providing unparalleled value and service to his clients.

With a strong track record of successful award-winning projects, the firm has transformed from a single practitioner business to a multidisciplinary firm. Ron’s vision and leadership strengths have attracted a remarkable team of talented professionals with built and in-progress projects throughout the nation. Ron earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Texas Tech University, is a registered architect in 35 states, and holds a national architectural accreditation from the NCARB.

Ron is active in giving back to not-for-profit communities by providing educational seminars and presenting educational sessions on architectural design and development topics at annual conferences for special needs populations. Ron is also committed to leadership in sustainable design through continued education and staff training in LEED professional accreditation.



Mark Poltorek, CSI

Mark’s acumen for good judgment, decision making and detailed project management from concept to completion forms the cornerstone of his leadership at RDL Architects.

Mark recognizes that solid client relationships are the foundations of RDL’s business success and over the span of his 20-year career at RDL has formed partnerships with clients nationwide. Mark’s commitment to the integrity of relationship and architecture is strongly reflected through a quote he shares often: “When we build, let us think that we build forever.” -John Ruskin




Lisa Elton
Commercial Director

Credentials, experience and leadership opened the path for Lisa’s appointment to Commercial Director in 2019 where she now successfully manages a talented team of designers and architects, budgets, operations and work production. 

Her management philosophy is founded on building strong client relationships. Her practice encourages collaboration, efficiency, problem solving and distinguished design solutions. Lisa’s design portfolio includes multiple awards of excellence including NAIOP Renovation of the Year, Best Multifamily Development, Best Urban Infill Development, and Award of Excellence for Affordable Senior Housing. 



Howard Shergalis, RA, LEED AP
Principal, Senior Living Director

Howard has more than 30 years experience in master planning and architectural design of senior living communities, housing and mixed-use campuses. He is proficient at working with a patchwork of stakeholders including agency boards, committees, volunteers and staff to develop a shared vision of the project. Among Howard’s strengths is the ability to anchor the collective vision in the realities of architectural technology, budget, schedule and government regulations. His success in project management, budgeting and quality control adds value to each and every project he touches.

A strong advocate of green and sustainable planning, Howard promotes a collaborative process to focus the knowledge and resources of the design team towards creating effective, efficient and long-term design solutions.

Howard earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, is a strategic planning course graduate from the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) and holds a national architectural accreditation from the NCARB. He has been an advocate and guest speaker at state and national conferences for the advancement of quality senior living facilities through innovative design.



David Parrish, RA, LEED AP
Principal, Business Development Director

David has more than 30 years experience overseeing the design, development and construction of retail and mixed-use projects around the country. He has led renovation and new construction projects totaling millions of square feet. As project leader, David has the unique ability to recognize and harness the strengths of those on his team, striving to ensure that the project meets and exceeds the client’s vision, while balancing all other standards of design and function.

David has directed several award-winning projects and is experienced in all types of retail mall renovations and expansions, power and community centers, demalling, façade renovations, lifestyle centers, individual stores, tenant coordination, signage and environmental graphics. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Kent State University and a national architectural accreditation from the NCARB.



Margaret Kavourias, AICP, Urban Planner
Placemaking Director

Margaret’s talent and leadership qualities are key elements in the continued growth of RDL Architects. She works with clients to develop plans and recommend policies for managing land use, physical facilities and associated services. She is adept at evaluating possible effects of a building’s presence within the natural environment and identifying efficient linkage of infrastructure, buildings and community spaces.

As primary facilitator of our Charrette process for master planning, Margaret creatively illustrates best practices and efficient design for the project’s success. She manages the LIHTC application process and teams across multiple states, coordinating all of the requirements needed to ensure accurate and timely submissions.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from the University of Cincinnati and a master’s degree in urban design from Washington University in St. Louis. Margaret has been a guest lecturer at The Ohio State University, Cleveland State University, and the AHF Live! Conference sponsored by Affordable Housing Finance magazine. She was nominated by the dean of the School of Urban Planning for the University of Cincinnati C-Ring Award which recognizes outstanding senior women at the university.



Joanne Horton
Residential Director

Through her leadership expertise, Joanne oversees the Residential Studio team and helps drive projects successfully through each step of the process, from imagined to completion, working closely with the client and the collaborative team of designers and consultants. With extensive experience in design and project management of multi-family and mixed-use communities, Joanne delivers significant value to our clients and the people who inhabit their communities. With her extensive background in creating inventive and beautiful designs, combined with organizational and managerial proficiency, she achieves targeted results for the client’s goals, schedules and budgets.

With a dual master’s degree in architecture and business administration, Joanne’s technical acumen allow her to manage the most complex programs and processes efficiently, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders, ensuring the highest quality deliverables are met for each and every project.



Haley Christopher, IIDA
Interior Design Director

Building on more than a decade of experience in the design industry, Haley’s focused leadership has brought continued growth and expansion to the firm’s Interior Design Studio. Having formerly collaborated with top designers around the nation while living in Chicago and Los Angeles, Haley brings an elevated design sensibility to the environments she conceives. She plays an integral role supervising and mentoring junior staff through all phases of project development.

From concept to completion, Haley is recognized for her exceptional attention to detail which ensures that even the most intricate projects receive her insight at each phase. She has earned praise from clients who appreciate her ability to manage all aspects of the design while guiding them through her personalized, process-oriented approach.

She consistently delivers creative, concise design solutions. Her ability to couple beauty and function has won the firm the 2016 NAIOP Office Interior Design Award of Excellence. Haley provides her clients with more than just attractive, well-programmed rooms; she strives to create an emotive experience that allows people to thrive.
