RDL Architects Wins Three Impressive Awards at the 2016 NAIOP Awards of Excellence
Interior Design of the Year Awarded for PIRHL Corporate Headquarters
CLEVELAND, OHIO (May 25, 2016) – RDL Architects is pleased to receive the top award in each of three categories at the annual Awards of Excellence, held on Wednesday, May 11th. Presented by NAIOP Northern Ohio Chapter, the annual program recognizes the best projects, real estate transactions and individual performance during the previous year in the commercial real estate industry in Northern Ohio.
RDL Architects were awarded the following projects:
Office Interior Design of the Year – PIRHL, Cleveland, OH
RDL Architects was asked to reinvent the identity of PIRHL’s soon-to-be headquarters. Located in Cleveland’s historic warehouse district, the fourth floor renovation began by gutting more than 9,000 square feet of existing office space to allow for a more modern aesthetic. The interior designer’s vision was an enormous change for PIRHL, considering its previous environment. The design placed an emphasis on contrast and space, featuring 13’ ceilings, exposed brick walls and glossy black trim against warm white walls to highlight the nine foot windows. Bright bursts of color, including its PIRHL’s signature green, mixed with an abundance of glass and low panel Herman Miller work stations allow natural light to pass through, creating a warm and balanced environment, which PIRHL now calls home.
Retail, Architectural Design of the Year – Arhaus Furniture, Leawood, KS
The Leawood store was designed and built from the ground-up and occupies more than 18,000 square feet. This is the first ground-up construction for Arhaus, and the building includes state-of-the-art energy management controls for lighting and mechanical systems. The building architecture incorporates a unique combination of brick, granite and glass on the exterior, with reclaimed oak flooring inside to provide a contemporary, cutting-edge industrial design.
Retail, Renovation of the Year – Arhaus Furniture, Scottsdale, AZ
Kierland Commons was the first Arhaus Furniture store on the west coast. More than 31,000 square-feet was renovated from a previous two-story Barnes & Noble bookstore, creating an impressive, custom-designed retail store that was completed in six months and under budget.
Building features of the renovation utilized fully reclaimed oak flooring, imported floor tile, metal tin ceilings, interior brick walls that make up more than half of the store, new windows for energy efficiency, an energy management day-lighting control system, 40 foot high barrel-vaulted roof and ceilings, custom design chandeliers by Arhaus, and a specialty room with reclaimed wood walls and millwork from an English manor.
