Markland Mall Expansion

Markland Mall is a redeveloped family-friendly shopping venue in Kokomo, Indiana. Formerly a 14-acre parcel housing a Sears department store, the RDL team was tasked with designing a new 84,000 square foot open air retail expansion to the mall to reenergize the area.

Serving a metropolitan area of around 100,000 people, the Markland Mall serves as the only regional mall within a 40-mile radius. With this in mind, RDL worked to reconfigure the parking lot and traffic pattern, updating the parcel and preparing it for the appropriate number of visitors.

Along with the updated parking lot and traffic pattern plans, the existing mall entry exterior and interior were redesigned and renovated, including new custom lighting, new mall flooring tile, ceiling designs and wayfinding. Additionally, new exterior wayfinding and pylon signs were included for the property.

The new building consists of three junior anchor tenants and three to four small tenants, using an array of materials balancing the desired architecture and in keeping with the required tenants’ identities and design requirements. RDL completed turn-key drawings for Ross Dress for Less, Party City, OshKosh/Carters and Prodigy.
