Solon Community Living

Solon Community Living was established to address the concerns parents with special needs children have regarding their children’s future and quality of life. As these children enter adulthood, they have challenges finding quality caregivers, transportation, and affordable housing. Solon Community Living provides these valuable assets to special needs individuals of all ages with an environment that encourages aging in place, access to and engagement within the community, while providing the on site care they need.

The pocket park neighborhood design promotes social engagement and interaction between residents of all ages while providing a sense of comfort and security by creating an inner park with shared gardens and walking paths. Surrounding the park are seven buildings with access and views focused on the central area, offering sustainable housing for both resident and permanent care givers. There are five duplexes each with a privately accessed caregiver apartment on the second floor and one quad with office space and another caregiver apartment. There is also a central community building for organized and private events. This housing model allows staff to be present full time and have the interaction that is needed for so many of the residents here, while having an affordable housing option close to the work that is so important for them.
