The Townhomes of Factory Square

The Townhomes at Factory Square in Carlisle, Pennsylvania is a 42-unit apartment building reserved as permanent supportive housing for United States veterans. Through redeveloping the former brownfield site – Carlisle Tire and Wheel – the RDL team created a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units as well as a 2,000 square foot community building.

With architecture inspired by the historic forms, proportions and details of the surrounding neighborhood, former industrial buildings were replaced with a new, pedestrian friendly streetscape. In addition to this update, RDL reintegrated the site with the neighborhood, which connected it to the street grid as part of a comprehensive master planning initiative.

The Townhomes at Factory Square feature high-performance design as the project meets all 2015 Enterprise Green Communities requirements. All-electric heating and cooling achieved a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) score of 60, using 40 percent less energy than typical new construction projects.
